At the beginning of the note in “No Te Duermas”, the president of the Center of technical and professional professionals of the La Matanza district, Mariano Borrás, spoke about the meeting planned for the first half of September in which his civil association of a union nature will participate: “It is a business round where, on this occasion, entrepreneurs, chains and gastronomic SMEs will participate. We are entering a very interesting situation, which is to change a little the axis that the technician, and that is where we always go, is not a businessman but a producer of goods and services.”

“We bring together first-class electricians, gas fitters and master builders. So, the scope of everything that a gastronomic enterprise needs is covered 100 percent, because the first-class gas fitter, to give you an idea, is not just the gas installer, but can also check if you have a boiler or an industrial-capacity oven. We have no limit to where we can work,” he said.

In line with the above, Borras defined the central objective: “The idea of this development is interesting because we are also trying to do, from the technical center, to promote the Matanzas technician in jobs in La Matanza.”

“What the big chains do is hire directly, from the main office, transfer the labor need there and maybe they hire a technician from Vicente López for a job in La Matanza who is equally qualified, but does not know the territory, where to buy, where to get prices for that same job,” he exemplified.

In turn, the president of the Center recognized: “La Matanza is, in economic terms, the fifth province. It cannot be that we depend on investors from outside the municipality so that the construction wheel starts to turn.”

Ensuring efficiency

“When the SME or developer entrepreneur or the person in the business round needs a technician, he will have the endorsement of the technicians center, which is a trade association that brings together technicians and will have a list made by work zones, so that you do not have to ask for a quote from a person who is not from the area,” he explained.

In another part of the interview, Borrás explained that “when AySA is privatized, the technician trained to make sanitary installations no longer has the formality of presenting a sanitary installation plan to any regulatory body, because AySA stops regulating and, by agreements, works from the municipal line outwards.” Therefore, “they have to move forward given that it is necessary for each undertaking to have its plan.”

“We were with a project that was certified for technical attitude in the purchase and sale of real estate. This certificate of technical aptitude comes with an electrical survey, a base survey, a sanitary survey, so that when you buy a property you buy it with the projection that what is made will last you, and you buy it also knowing where you have to modify and where not”, he added.

Regarding the objective that the president of the Center has in the business round, he said: “We talked about it with the technicians and we are going to have some training before the business round so that the technician understands that it is not about coming to fix it because the microphone does not turn on, it is about coming to fix it and leaving the owner with a vision of how it benefits them to have a technician and a recommendation towards the changes that can be made to save service or improve production, which is what the investor seeks the most”.

Promoting technicians

He also referred to the economic situation of the technicians, about which he said: “Today we are very concerned about the fall in the construction sector. We are very concerned because the technician does not only live off of one job, but sometimes you had him working in public works and, in the moments in which he was not in public works, he was doing work as a construction company. We have the capacity to set up construction companies so that you can have a company that works in public works without being a public employee because you are a service company.”

“The demand for public works fell and, as consumption falls, investment falls and as investment falls, growth falls. Nobody builds premises to leave them empty or houses to make them uninhabitable. I believe that today the municipality is oriented to be its own economic producer, to be its own economic driver and this is something that is viewed favorably by all sectors,” he added.
