Forty-nine years after March 24, 1976, which established the worst dictatorship in the history of Argentina and left 30,000 missing, thousands of prisoners, and hundreds of thousands in exile, with the destruction of the country and its surrender to various imperialist powers, various activities will be held in La Matanza to be part of the events that will be held in connection with this date.

Marking a corner in Villa Constructora.

Lily Galiano, a member of the Hijos group because she is the daughter of Héctor Galeano, a disappeared telephone worker and resident of the neighborhood, spoke with the NCO.

The first signage in La Matanza

“Children of La Matanza invite you to the first signage in our district for a memorial corner, which will take place at the corner of Peribebuy and Pampa, Villa Constructora. This event takes place on the eve of March 24th, 49 years since the military coup that established the genocidal dictatorship from 1976 to 1983, and aims to recover the history of our disappeared colleagues and family members. It will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 8:00 p.m.”

Who was Héctor Galeano?

Héctor Galeano was a telephone worker from Santiago, a San Lorenzo fan, a member of the School No. 6 Cooperative, and the father of five children. His daughter tells us: “Today we are under a denialist, starving government that unleashes all its might against workers and retirees, as we saw in the savage repression in Congress on March 12th. That’s why these tributes take on greater significance.”

Decommissioning of the San Justo Brigade

Lily closes by commenting on what the event will be like and who is organizing the first signage: “It is being promoted by the Children of La Matanza Association, the Memory Roundtable, family and friends, and with the support of Cultural Bands. There, we will share words from his family, children, and grandchildren, accompanied by songs by Matanzas singer-songwriter Abelardo Martin and bands such as El Abel, Rayo, and Noventa y Tres. We are asking at the event, as we always have, for the decommissioning of the San Justo Brigade (one of the clandestine detention and torture centers) to be converted into a Memorial Space.”

Talk-debate on Saturday the 22nd.

Another of the activities taking place in our district in connection with March 24th is the talk-debate that the JCR (Revolutionary Communist Youth) will hold at the CCC Cultural Center “Nothing is Impossible” at Roma 3240, Isidro Casanova. The meeting is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd.

With the slogan “There are 30,000” and “just like the Nazis, wherever they go, we will go looking for them,” the talk will feature Juan Carlos Alderete, member of the PCR Central Committee and National Representative (term completed) for the UP (United Left), Pedro Zamparolo, Regional Political Secretary, Martin Salas, member of the PCR Regional Directorate, and Luciano Álvarez, National Secretary of the JCR (United Left).

Tenth Vigil for Remembrance.

As has been held in recent years in La Matanza, the Roundtable for Memory, Truth, and Justice is calling for a new vigil. This will be the 10th, and will take place on Sunday, March 23rd.

“49 years after the civic, military, and ecclesiastical coup. We will return 30,000 times” is the slogan for the event. The meeting point is at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd at Arieta and Paraguay Streets. Traditionally, the march will go to San Justo Square and, occasionally, to the San Justo Brigade on Salta Street (one of the 13 clandestine detention centers that existed in La Matanza). Afterward, there will be an event with accompanying local artists.
