Representative Brenda Vargas Matyi addressed the accusations made by the Minister of Security, who claimed that the mayor’s office had sent “barras” (crowds) to cause disruption at the mobilization in support of retirees.
The legislator also questioned President Javier Milei’s lack of restraint and expressed concern about the repression of protesters.
National Representative Brenda Vargas Matyi, of the Unión por la Patria party, criticized President Javier Milei for his statements at ExpoAgro and accused him of “doubling down” instead of calming the situation after the repression that occurred last Wednesday.
During her speech at ExpoAgro, Milei publicly supported the police’s actions and defended the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, in the face of criticism. “Minister Bullrich is doing an enormous job restoring order to the streets, and we won’t allow ourselves to be swept away by false accusations,” the president stated.
Furthermore, Milei ironically joked about his entourage, noting that he was “accompanied by people who irritate leftists,” which generated mixed reactions in the political arena.
Vargas Matyi also referred to the upcoming mobilization of retirees who march every Wednesday in defense of their rights. “Wednesday will be a new opportunity to support the retirees who have been marching for a long time,” he stated.
At the same time, the legislator questioned the statements of Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, who accused the La Matanza mayor’s office of financing hooligans to attend last Wednesday’s mobilization. “Where is the evidence Bullrich has to make this accusation? We are waiting to see the evidence,” Vargas Matyi challenged.
She also described Milei’s government as “an authoritarian regime” and denounced the acts of violence during the repression: “They shot a photojournalist in the head. That is dangerous here and anywhere in the world,” she stated.
Regarding the institutional situation, the representative reaffirmed the need to open the Impeachment Commission and advanced the complaint filed by her bloc against President Javier Milei for “the Libra cryptocurrency scam.” “We believe it is the institutional tool we must use for this investigation,” she stated.
However, she criticized the commission’s inactivity and the fact that requests for information are not being processed, which is why she supports other initiatives seeking explanations from key officials, such as Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos and Karina Milei.
In this context, Vargas Matyi also highlighted the need to strengthen the unity of Peronism and consolidate a “great anti-fascist front” against the policies of the current government.
“I want to believe that the government will reverse what it has been agitating for,” the official said regarding the upcoming retirees’ march, warning that “last Wednesday, several citizens’ rights were violated.”
In this regard, she warned: “I also believe they are on the path to violating international treaties and that there may be some kind of body regarding the actions of this government, which is a government in a democracy and must comply with constitutional norms and international treaties.”
The representative referred to Bullrich’s threats to strengthen the security operation and assured that the mobilization will have greater public support. “We cannot be indifferent,” she concluded.
