The Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Buenos Aires held an extraordinary session on Thursday, during which the Executive Branch’s project that creates the Buenos Aires Pharmaceutical Industry Center became law, and in which an initiative of the Unión por la Patria block that guarantees Buenos Aires institutions access to public services was partially approved.

The Pharmaceutical Industry Center, a corporation with majority participation by the State, aims to strengthen a public drug production policy as an essential part of health policies. Its objective is to guarantee the supply of medicines, vaccines, supplies, medical products and pharmaceutical ingredients for the entire Province of Buenos Aires. It also intends to establish primary and secondary standards for the control of the quality of production.

The tasks of the organization include:
The research, development, export, import, purchase and sale of medicines, vaccines, medical supplies and equipment, pharmaceutical ingredients and any type of input necessary for health.

Quality control of medicines, vaccines and
Quality control of food and water
An initiative by the president of the Unión por la Patria block, Facundo Tignanelli, also received partial approval to guarantee that the institutions of the province have access to public services. This project proposes that the providers of public services with provincial jurisdiction guarantee the supply of gas, drinking water, electricity and sewage services for: non-profit civil associations, municipalities, municipal dependencies and health and educational establishments of public management. These organizations will be covered as long as their consumption does not exceed 5000 kw/h per month.

The cutting off of services will be prohibited for these institutions, even when they are in arrears or have a cut-off notice. It also establishes that the service providers must give them payment plans in monthly installments that facilitate the settlement of their debts. Speaking during the session, Tignanelli said: “This is a project with a profound sense of social justice, which establishes equality between service providers managed by the private sector and those managed by the public sector.

In addition, it will facilitate the carrying out of the activities of a lot of institutions in the province of Buenos Aires. A development society, a hospital, an educational institution or a club that has had its service cut off due to non-payment means a lot less kids in that place.”
