This is how Horacio Giménez, a worker at the San Justo Polyclinic, expressed himself in reference to the demand for salary adjustment and better working conditions. This afternoon, they will hold an open assembly in San Justo.

The health workers of La Matanza continue with their plan of struggle in demand of better salary and working conditions. In this context, the protest involves various health institutions such as the San Justo Central Polyclinic, the Teresa Germani Hospital in Gregorio de Laferrere, the Children’s Hospital in San Justo and the Equiza Hospital in González Catán. In addition, the transfer to permanent employment of precarious workers is demanded, which constitutes one of the main demands of the sector.

Given this situation, a new open assembly has been called for this Friday at 4 pm in the Plaza de San Justo, located on Arieta Street, in front of the Cathedral. During the meeting, the workers will evaluate the possibility of carrying out a large mobilization if they do not receive favorable responses to their demands.

A formal note will also be delivered to the Bishop with the intention of requesting his intervention in the conflict, which could contribute to making the problem even more visible.

Horacio Giménez, a worker at the San Justo Polyclinic, expressed his concern about the serious situation in which the district’s hospitals find themselves. According to him, the workers are willing to continue performing their duties with commitment and responsibility; however, the lack of basic supplies makes this task increasingly difficult.

In this sense, he stressed that there are fundamental deficiencies, for example, in the neonatology service, where the absence of essential elements, such as tape or water to prepare milk, creates an alarming scenario. In addition, he stressed that the Executive seems not to be aware of the seriousness of the problem.

As if that were not enough, the workers also denounce that low salaries and job insecurity hinder the normal functioning of the hospitals. In this regard, they point out that the economic situation has reached such an extreme that collections are organized among the employees themselves in order to load the SUBE card and guarantee transportation to work. “We feel increasingly aggrieved with the salaries we have in La Matanza. It is difficult to come to work,” said the worker.

Added to this is that many times, due to pressure from the Ministry of Health, they cannot miss work because the deduction of a day’s salary is a significant detriment to their economy. Consequently, the lack of resources affects both their professional performance and their quality of life.

Waiting for concrete answers

In an attempt to obtain concrete answers, the workers have decided to present a note signed by workers from the municipal health centers at the Municipal Reception Desk, the local Ministry of Health and the Workers’ Union of the Municipality of La Matanza.

In the document, they request an urgent salary adjustment and provide details about the low income received by health professionals, which does not reach the basic basket despite the hours and seniority of the workers.

In addition, they highlight that all agents receive salaries below the poverty index, a situation that has led to extreme actions such as the organization of solidarity collections to guarantee the transfer of workers or the preparation of food in hospitals, which in many cases represent the only daily meal for some employees.

At the same time, the document also denounces the lack of basic supplies and medicines in the guards, which seriously compromises the care of patients.

At this point, the workers made reference to the management of the national government and pointed out that, despite the policies implemented at the central level, they hope that the La Matanza Party differentiates itself by its Peronist tradition and takes measures that protect the rights of workers in the health sector.

Finally, as an urgent measure, the employees demand a fixed sum of $300,000 to the basic salary of all municipal workers in the public health sector of the municipality of La Matanza.

In addition, they insist on the need to improve working conditions and guarantee the supply of essential supplies in hospitals, thus allowing adequate medical care. Meanwhile, the struggle of health workers is intensifying and, given the lack of concrete responses, they do not rule out carrying out a massive mobilization soon.
