Throughout history, music and rock within it, has given rise to artists and groups that transformed everything in their path and that undoubtedly marked a before and after. And when it comes to talking about bands that revolutionized music, an emblematic example is that of Queen, the legendary English group led by Freddie Mercury.

The legacy of Queen and Freddie Mercury knew how to transcend generations, languages, and borders and thus garner fans around the world who today contribute to keeping the history and imprint of the band born in the city of London at the top.

One case is that of the musician Matías Denti and his companions who form the group Doctora Queen with which they pay tribute to the quartet creator of hymns such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Are The Champions”, among others. In that sense, Diario NCO spoke with Denti to learn more details about the project, as well as the challenges they faced and the dreams they have for the future.

Continuing with Freddie’s legacy

Doctora Queen is a tribute band born in the Argentine city of Luján made up of Matías Denti (main voice), Andrés De Andrea (guitar), Gabriel Gil (bass and chorus), Leo Moreno (drums) and Dolores Jech (chorus).

Regarding the factors that he considers distinguish Doctora Queen from other tributes to Freddie Mercury’s band, Denti commented: “I think that the differentiation is in the stage more than anything because the songs are respected and the essence is always about maintaining.”

“I think that in the staging we are a band quite different from the tribute bands because we don’t personify ourselves but rather we try to be ourselves on stage interpreting Queen’s songs,” added the interviewee.

Along these lines, Denti added that “I think we try to put our own style on something that is very well done and that can be a point of difference, if you want, with the rest of the tributes.”

Maintaining a unique identity

In line with what was mentioned, the musician referred to the imprint that he and his companions seek to bring to Queen’s songs, without losing the essence of the original songs.

In this regard, Denti pointed out that “it is somewhat difficult to describe it because, precisely, the essence is something that cannot be seen or touched, but I do believe that it is in the imprint of the individual. In addition, each one of us tries to do the best for the song.”

To continue his reflection, the interviewee added: “Although we respect the songs as they are originally, we try to put our grain of sand into them and we are really very happy with it. So it is something that gives Doctora Queen a point of interest as well.”

At this point, Denti spoke of the challenge that it implies for him in particular, the fact of having to interpret Freddie Mercury’s songs, considering the power of his voice and his characteristic presence in the shows.

“The challenges are in themselves to be able to sing or interpret Freddie Mercury’s songs. I think it is a constant job that must be taken very seriously and done or tried to do it in the best way. I think that you have to pay a lot of attention to it and, particularly, I try to study and improve myself day by day because the level of complexity is very high,” he assured.

The musician also added and stressed that “the intention is always to be up to par and obviously I don’t feel like Freddie Mercury, nor do I feel like I even sing like him, but I do try to put my best so that the songs sound like I think they should sound and always respecting Freddie’s figure within Queen.”

A before and after and what is to come

Beyond the years they have been on the road, one of the crucial events in Doctora Queen’s career was their time on the Got Talent contest that was broadcast recently on the Telefé channel and where the group was able to reach an advanced stage and win the affection of the public.

Regarding what this experience meant, Denti said: “For us it was very important to have participated in the Got Talent program. Obviously being the revelation band is also a very important prize, and it is as important as having won, something that we could not achieve even though we reached the semi-finals.”

“It was a huge help to have participated in the program and it was something that we tried to take advantage of throughout 2024 and start working on little by little to be able to continue growing. So it has given us a big push to have been on Got Talent,” added the artist.

In that sense, with a present full of shows and a desire to continue growing, the Doctora Queen tribute also keeps its gaze on
