Paulenko and a discussion on various important current issues

Heard on “No Te Duermas”

UCR. Paulenko and a discussion on various important.

Paulenko, a journalist and political analyst, spoke with the hosts of the radio program “No Te Duermas” about the issues surrounding the Palomar airport, party politics, the university fund, and a proposed law that would prohibit child support debtors from entering bingo halls and casinos.

Initially, he addressed the issues with the Palomar airport, stating:
“In 2015, this airport was already closed and unused. At its peak, it employed a thousand people, both directly and indirectly.”

“Yesterday, during the presentation at the National Chamber of Deputies, Guillermo Franco discussed the controversy surrounding Palomar airport, saying: ‘Gentlemen, this airport was not closed by the government; it can operate calmly.'”

“During the Macri and Vidal administrations, two companies managed the operations: FlyBondi and Norwegian Air. This company, with English and Norwegian capital, abandoned its operations in the country after the pandemic.”

He added: “FlyBondi is still operating, but it seems they preferred Ezeiza and Aeroparque, just like JetSmart; so, low-cost commercial airlines don’t want to operate from Palomar.”

When asked about the companies’ reasons, Paulenko explained: “There are two reasons. First, they claim that operating from Palomar is more expensive, and second, its distance from Aeroparque or Ezeiza makes it more costly operationally.”

“For us, the residents of the western area, Palomar is convenient, but for those not located in that part of the west, it is challenging due to poor connectivity.”

The Residents’ Protest

Paulenko also recalled the residents’ protest against the reopening of Palomar airport: “During Mauricio Macri and Vidal’s administration, there were concerns about the environmental impact and many other issues,” but paradoxically: “Currently, the Morón municipality wants this airport to reopen because, in hard times, even a thousand jobs or fewer is work. They would pay taxes from commercial operations, so the municipality is looking at it favorably,” he noted.

In the same context, he added: “If low-cost airlines don’t want to operate from Palomar, they are considering converting this airport into something similar to San Fernando.”

“San Fernando is a small airport that mainly handles charter flights (private), helicopter companies, health companies with famous air ambulances, and top workshops for repairing aircraft.” “They are considering a business model that might be somewhat smaller, akin to San Fernando 2,” he emphasized.

Party Politics

He also addressed Ricardo Alfonsín’s resignation from the UCR, stating: “Alejandra Dulce Martínez spoke out; Leopoldo Moreau, Ricardo Alfonsín, Gustavo López no longer fit within radicalism.”
“When Adolfo Rodríguez Saá made a grand call, many leaders from Melchor Posse joined that famous venture (and so did he), and then radicalism welcomed him with open arms; there were some sanctions at the time, but they were later pardoned.”

“This situation was different; these leaders saw in Peronism and Kirchnerism a different political and economic vision and went there.” There are rumors that Ricardo Alfonsín is negotiating with Jorge Ceballos, Humberto Tumini from Libres del Sur, regarding future political deals in Buenos Aires province because they are primarily aiming for Axel Kicillof’s presidential candidacy,” he noted.
“The idea of this new group is to work solely on that candidacy. I imagine that these names: Ricardo Alfonsín, Gustavo López, and Saravia from Libres del Sur, along with another Libres del Sur leader, could become future officials in Buenos Aires province.”
Pablo Domenichini

Paulenko also mentioned the presentation of the internal faction called Futuro Radical:
“With the endorsement of Martín Lousteau and Facundo Manes, Pablo Domenichini, candidate for president of the provincial committee, introduced his vice-presidential candidate, legislator Nazarena Mesías from Lanús.” “This list is supported by Tandil Mayor Miguel Lunghi, national deputies Danya Tavela, Pablo Juliano, leader Federico Storani, Juan Manuel Casella, and the president of the provincial youth wing, Manuel Cisneros.”

“The other group, led by Miguel Fernández, has the endorsement of Maxi Abad, the current provincial committee president and national senator, and Gustavo Posse, a historic radical leader who is a mayor supporting this list.”

La Matanza

Furthermore, the interviewee spoke about what could happen in La Matanza: “In La Matanza, it is possible that Domenichini’s people win the elections because the list includes former deputy Josefina Mendoza, Silvia Caprino, Manuel Atencio, Dr. Barresi, and Alejandra Dulce Martínez.”
“In the other group, there are Enzo Gioia, Bruno Laro, and possibly other leaders from their committee.” I am told they are trying to form a unified list in La Matanza because the people from Fernández Maciava do not want to lose decisively. Therefore, there could be updates on a potential unified list in La Matanza in the coming hours.”

University Fund

Regarding this topic, the journalist noted: “Eduardo de Pedro and Juliana Di Tullio from Unión por La Patria and Maximiliano Abad from UCR were invited. Coincidentally, there was a plenary session of the CIN (National Interuniversity Council of rectors) in Lomas de Zamora.”

In this context, he added: “The legislators committed to, if Milei, as he is doing with retirees, vetoes this future law, they would push again to ensure that the executive guarantees not only the salaries of university workers but also that universities can advance in research and other areas.”

“At the meeting in Lomas de Zamora, the host was Diego Molea as rector; for La Matanza, it was vice-rector Luján Acosta, and for Merlo, it was Licenciado Roberto Gallo.”

Regarding the vote, he noted: “Technically, there are enough votes to pass it, but Milei has already said he will veto it,” he pointed out.

On the Proposed Law

At the end of the interview, the journalist and political analyst also discussed the proposed law that would prohibit child support debtors from entering bingo halls and casinos.

“This is a bill authored by provincial deputy Germán Di Cesare from Unión por la Patria, aimed at banning child support debtors from entering gambling venues. If you are behind by up to three installments, you can enter; with the fourth installment overdue, this bill, if enacted, will prevent you from entering both online and in-person to gamble.” It’s a way of saying: “First, take care of your children, then come to gamble at a casino or bingo,” he concluded.
