Richard Sánchez joins Racing, Newell’s elections, and who will replace Yliana?

Racing. Richard Sánchez joins Racing.
Racing. Richard Sánchez joins Racing.

Since the beginning of the year, Racing and América de México have been negotiating for Richard Sánchez, and Baltasar Rodríguez’s loan to Inter Miami opened the door for the Paraguayan to finally join the Academy.

Sánchez arrived in the country on Monday and began his studies, although he has yet to train with his new teammates while waiting for all the documents to be in order to seal the deal.

Racing will purchase his transfer for around three million dollars, and if he’s fit, Costas could have him as an alternative on the bench for the Clásico against Independiente, a club he was very close to playing for.

Sánchez played one more season at Olimpia and in mid-2019, América de México acquired him, where he remained until Racing showed interest in him again. Now, at 28, he will join Avellaneda. And he could make his debut in none other than the Clásico.

It’s worth remembering that, in mid-2018, the midfielder was performing very well for Olimpia in Paraguay, and several teams were interested in signing him. One of those was, precisely, Independiente.

At 22, Sánchez was standing out in his country and had the endorsement of a leading figure in Olimpia, Daniel Garnero, who was coaching him at Olimpia at the time. The Paraguayan is the latest addition to the Academy, and if all the paperwork is in place, he could make his debut in the derby against Olimpia.

Amid the process of early elections at Newell’s, Ignacio Astore broke his silence.

Amid the sporting and institutional crisis, Ignacio Astore broke his silence and spoke about early elections. “For the good of the institution, we are talking with Dr. Roberto Baravalle and leading members of the opposition. We believe the elections should not be in December. An Extraordinary

Assembly must be called first.” We have to reach an agreement with the opposition, and I don’t think it will last longer than April. From then on, things will begin to take shape. There’s no need for the elections to be exactly 90 days away. The idea is for the new commission to take charge and be responsible for the next transfer market,” he commented in an interview with Zapping Sport.

The red-and-black president addressed the current situation at the club: “I see that this type of process undoubtedly doesn’t do the institution any good. We believed that after Eduardo López, we would find a democracy that would mature. We took over a club in September 2021 that had left the trust fund, and we’re more or less four years away. Newell’s has to live in peace. Self-destruction is very bad both internally and in Buenos Aires. The AFA finds out about everything.”

He added: “The teams that have continuity in the sporting and institutional spheres do so because they’ve looked to the medium and long term, not bringing forward elections, closing club doors, or breaking computers and cameras in the administration. It’s not good for an institution that every three and a half years they’re changing the figures and starting to shoot each other and fight each other all over the place, because it harms the institution.”

Yllana left Aldosivi after a tough start to the 2025 Apertura

Aldosivi remains winless in the 2025 Apertura, and the tough loss to Tigre at the José María Minella Stadium marked the end of Andrés Yllana’s second tenure as coach. Yllana, the coach with whom he won the 2024 Primera Nacional title, ultimately did not coach Monday’s practice at Tiburón’s Punta Mogotes grounds. After meeting with management, he decided to step down, having recorded only two draws and seven losses in the Mar del Plata squad’s return to the top flight of Argentine soccer.
After the defeat at the hands of Matador de Victoria, Yllana had expressed his strength to remain in the position and dismissed concerns about the fight to remain in the First Division: “We are close to our reality and our championship, which are Sarmiento and San Martín de San Juan.”
