Olga Ortigoza, councilor of the Socialist Left in the Left and Workers Front (FIT)-Unity, assumed her seat in the Deliberative Council of La Matanza with an agenda marked by labor, social and environmental demands. In recent radio statements, the councilor highlighted the challenges of the most populous district in the country and reaffirmed the commitment of her political space to popular struggles.
“We are very happy because this agreement reflects our political orientation and also a different way of doing politics. At the end of the mandate, each representative returns to his or her workplace, demonstrating that we are not professional politicians,” explained Ortigoza, referring to the rotation mechanism that has characterized the FIT-Unity since its creation.
The councilor assumes her role in a context of high labor conflict in La Matanza. According to him, municipal workers face low wages, precarious work and deplorable conditions in hospitals and schools. “We met with self-organized municipal workers who demand decent wages and against job insecurity. They also denounce the conditions of municipal hospitals and schools, which are in a critical situation,” he said.
Among the conflicts, Ortigoza highlighted the situation of the Children’s Hospital, where families face serious difficulties in accessing psychiatric treatment. “Children with psychiatric treatment do not receive the necessary psychotropic drugs. It is a desperate situation,” he added.

He also mentioned the struggle of municipal teachers, who receive only half the salary of their provincial peers. “Although the need to equalize salaries has already been discussed in the Deliberative Council of La Matanza, this has not been done. Teachers continue to fight and asked us to take up their claims,” he said.
The councillor also promised to promote environmental initiatives from her position, in line with the historical agenda of the left. Among them, she highlighted the ordinance that regulates the use of glyphosate in urban areas and denounced the case of the Klaukol company, located in Virrey del Pino.
“It is public knowledge that the emissions from this company have caused cancer and malformations in children. We will continue to denounce this environmental and health disaster,” she said, stressing the importance of defending the affected communities.
Social mobilizations and criticism of traditional unionism
Asked about the state of mobilization in La Matanza, Ortigoza rejected the idea that the population is passive in the face of social problems. “The government says that people are fine because they managed to control inflation, while some union sectors claim that workers do not want to fight. But the reality is different: when union leaders called for action, workers responded massively,” she said.
However, she criticized union leaders for their lack of action in the face of social demands. “The leaders have an agreement with the government to contain the social mobilization. But the anger is there, and it is accumulating,” she concluded.
With her arrival at the Deliberative Council, Olga Ortigoza promises to be a voice that amplifies the claims of the workers, families and affected communities, consolidating the fight for labor, social and environmental rights in La Matanza.
“With the unity of the left we have won the council seats in one of the largest districts in the province of Buenos Aires, being the district with the most popular neighborhoods in the suburbs that do not have the minimum and basic services such as electricity, drinking water or sewage,” said the councilor through her social networks.
In this sense, the councilor added: “We have won this seat to make it available to all the struggles and demands of the working people of La Matanza and also to carry forward the policy of the Socialist Left in FIT-U and continue strengthening the Left Front so that once and for all the workers govern.”
