Barresi. The UCR leader from Matanzas spoke about projects related to the issue and domestic violence. He distanced himself from the national government and launched some reflections within his party.
At the beginning of the communication, he stated that “we have presented a project against the abuse of children and adolescents, a program that tries to ensure that the parties that make up the social organizations of the Municipality can interact, this means that they can inform, prevent and raise awareness and give concrete answers to grandmothers and mothers who have suffered violence.”
“Domestic violence increased with the pandemic, and these are issues that were not discussed again. The Municipality must inform and use all the tools it has in its favor, that talks and workshops on the subject be given,” Barresi said.
To complete his idea, the radical leader pointed out that “ESI was very important, beyond the fact that some did not agree, to address the issue. 80 percent of the complaints for gender violence were due to having talks about ESI in schools.”
The tensions with the government over ESI and what is happening in the Municipality
In the continuation of the interview, she continued to distance herself from the Milei administration: “At the national level, ESI is seen in a bad light. This is generated when the State moves further and further away from the issue and does not want to take charge. It is a national State that is distancing itself and this is highly dangerous. They do not even take into account public policies, they only take into account the market.”
She also raised a point of distance with the municipal Gender Secretary: “I have had exchanges with Liliana Hendel, I presented it to her in different formats for the project, but all she did was block me on Twitter.”
“The situation today is problematic. It is good that, at the provincial level, a project is being put together in consensus with different political blocks that also includes gambling addiction and grooming,” Barresi concluded.
His view on the radicalism-Libertad Avanza alliance
In the final part of the interview, Barresi analyzed the alliance of his party with the government at a national level and launched serious criticism: “I find the president’s bravado regrettable, in which he thinks he is managing a student center and does not realize that he is managing a country with 47 million inhabitants.”
In line with this, he said that “he denigrates a political party like radicalism, which is in favor of respecting institutions, the Republic and democracy.”
In addition, he asked his radical peers to put a stop to the attacks and insults of Javier Milei: “Also, the most worrying thing is what is happening with our coreligionists, one cannot be so meek with the government, the fact of attacking a leader like Alfonsín seems regrettable to me.”
“There is a lot of political flatness. Milei only gives crumbs to radical governors, we have to put a stop to it so that democracy does not become a vetocracy or an autocracy, that is why traditional parties will have to come together and leave their differences behind,” concluded the interviewee.
