In response to the question from the table, at the beginning of the conversation on No Te Duermas, Debora Giorgi said: “The business round was held last Friday. It really was a huge success, it is the thirteenth round with more than 350 registrants and around 3000 business contacts. I would highlight some issues that seem
important to me such as the enormous interest of our industrial SMEs to attend this event and especially to make contact with two very important chains from Paraguay that came and participated in the round.”

“These are the Salemma group, which is a conglomerate of not only supermarkets but also wholesale stores, and the Tienda Biggie, which are convenience stores that are already in 200 branches. In total we had the opportunity to interview two groups that represent 1,000 sales outlets,” she explained.

At the same time, she stressed that “there were companies from Santa Fe, Mendoza, Salta and not only from the suburbs” and that “although 70 percent are industrial companies from Matanzas, there is a remaining 30 percent that covers the suburbs such as Morón, Cañuelas, Lomas, Avellaneda and the interior of the Province such as Bolívar, Bahía Blanca; and the interior of the country.”

The participating companies

Then, the interviewee specified: “There was the entire line of very good quality baked goods that we have. Alfajores, sweet cookies, all kinds of chocolates that are very well accepted. There was an area of drinks, regional products or more closely linked to jams. Large producers who perhaps became famous for what they provided, such as La Nirva or Mielcitas. Now these suppliers also want to diversify their offering.”

“Also exportable fresh pasta, where we already have Villa D’Agri, which exports to the United States as well as to Mexico and Brazil. This type of company from Matanzas was the one that was there and presented itself previously,” he added.

The system of business rounds

Returning to the initial topic, Giorgi described what the work is like prior to the event: “This work of business rounds begins three or four months before because each of the companies that has an interview with others has to send a digital catalogue, present prices, make a presentation to be chosen and it is surely the same for choosing a supplier or a partner.”

“We make a pre-selection because there are many of us. The businessman arrives and already has an average of 15 interviews with the name of the company that chose him and with the table where he has to go and the time. And on the other side, he has the names of the companies that he chose and that agreed to see him
with a table and time. It is in four hours of work, from 1:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., where there is an enormous possibility of identifying suppliers, clients, of making that first contact and also evaluating new market trends,” he said.

In addition, he mentioned that “I would say that the results are more or less good, when we do the survey three months after the round, there is a success rate of 60, 70 percent” and that “that contact results in a new supplier who lowered costs.”

“A lot happens in everything that is cleaning products, in packaging, in liquefied natural gas. These are some of the inputs par excellence that are discovered in the business round and that obtain good results that are then visible,” he concluded.
