The attacker fled and even returned to his house to get a backpack, without being captured by the police. At the time of this edition’s closing, he was still at large and the victim’s family asked for the community’s collaboration to find his parade. “While he is still alive, my brother is no longer here, he did not return home. It is not fair.”
On December 2, an episode of extreme violence shocked the residents of Villa Scasso. A truck from the atmospheric truck company “Ariel” arrived in the afternoon to carry out a sewage work at the intersection of Pasaje Timoteo and San Pedro. However, what began as a daily task ended in tragedy.
At the end of the work, the owner of the house expressed her dissatisfaction with the service and refused to pay, which sparked a heated argument between the company employees and the woman. According to witnesses, the verbal confrontation quickly escalated, with insults and shouts by the owner.
In the middle of the altercation, a man who had been present since the truck arrived entered the house and, minutes later, came out carrying a bag from which he extracted a firearm. Without saying a word, he began shooting directly at the company vehicle.
The two workers tried to flee to safety. The truck driver, identified as Jorge Ismael Gómez, 47, started the vehicle in a desperate attempt to escape. However, he was hit by one of the shots, which proved fatal.
Fatally wounded, Gómez lost control of the truck, which ended up falling into a ditch a few meters from the place. His partner, who miraculously escaped unharmed from the shots, managed to get out of the truck and began to scream for help. Meanwhile, the attacker escaped from the scene.
Although the woman was arrested, she was released hours later by order of the prosecutor, since there was no evidence against her.
The surviving worker, visibly affected by the attack, was treated for shock and high blood pressure. He spent several hours at the González Catán police station giving a statement before being taken home with his family.
“While he is still alive, my brother is no longer here. It is not fair.”
In a conversation with No Te Duermas, Yamila Gómez, sister of the victim of the brutal murder, gave more details of the events that led to the tragedy and demanded justice in the midst of the pain her family is experiencing.
“We know that they went and provided the service. When they finished emptying the well, my brother told the girl that there was going to be some water left because there were rocks and he couldn’t continue sucking with the hose because it was going to get clogged. The girl started arguing because she was unhappy, according to her, the work was poorly done,” explained Yamila.
The situation quickly worsened. “Meanwhile, her partner was on the opposite sidewalk, watching all this, and when the argument started to get heated, my brother told him that, even if he wanted to, he couldn’t do more. He crossed, went into the house, came out with a fanny pack and took a gun out of the fanny pack,” she said.
Immediately, the victim realized how serious the situation was. “My brother told his partner ‘run, he has a gun’ and they got into the truck to escape.” Because the large vehicle was loaded and the characteristics of the street, he was unable to reach speed. After about 100 meters the attacker caught up with them and started shooting. “He fired seven shots, six of which hit the truck door, and the last one went straight to the head,” said Yamila, visibly affected by the incident. After the fatal explosion, the truck driven by the victim lost control and ended up in a ditch. According to witness accounts, the attacker intimidated the neighbors so they would not provide assistance. After the attack, the killer returned home and fled on a motorcycle, while the victim died instantly. “There was nothing to do because he had a shot in the back of the head,” said Yamila, who said that her brother left behind six children, the youngest of whom was only eight years old.
The victim’s sister also questioned the lack of results by the authorities, despite the fact that the community has provided valuable information. “We received information that they saw him, that he was in the house to get a backpack and ran away. He is a person who does not have the resources to leave. He has no criminal record, but they have told us that he is a thief,” she said.
In addition, the woman revealed that “those who give us information ask us not to give their names because they are afraid.” At the time of closing this edition, the murderer was still at large and his family asked for the community’s collaboration to find his parade. “While he is still alive, my brother is no longer here, he has not returned home. It is not fair.”
