Another Major Loss for Rosario Central
The Canalla are facing challenging times with injuries. Jorge Broun will be out of action for a few weeks as he undergoes rehabilitation for a tendon issue related to some muscular problems.
Although there has been no official statement, Fatura sustained a tear during the tournament break for the Copa América. With a tight schedule ahead between the Professional League and the Copa Sudamericana, he chose to play through the injury rather than wait for full recovery. Due to ongoing pain in his right knee, they decided to stop now and allow him a complete recovery.
This absence is significant and adds to other key players who are currently unavailable, such as Carlos Quintana, who is recovering from a plantar fascia rupture; Agustín Módica, who tore his cruciate ligaments along with Emanuel Coronel; and Facundo Mallo, who is nearing a return from a strain.
Axel Werner will be the replacement in goal, having played only a few minutes since his arrival. The player from Rafaela, with past stints at Boca and Arsenal in Argentine football, has only appeared in 4 matches for Central and now has the opportunity to prove himself as the guardian of the goal.
Ricardo Centurión’s Difficult Situation
Since April last year, Ricky has not played professional football. His stint at Barracas Central was not successful, and he was not considered by then-coach Sergio Rondina. He returned to Vélez, the club that owns part of his rights along with Racing, but the situation did not improve.
Gustavo Quinteros considered him, included him in preseason training, and even named him on the bench for a Copa Argentina match against Sportivo Las Parejas. However, he did not make it onto the field and may have been discouraged.
In a conversation with the media, the coach expressed his frustration and lamented what has happened to the former Racing player: “I tried. I spoke with him. I invited him to come to my place every day if he wanted. At that time, one wants to recover the person, hoping they understand that it’s important to recover as a person and then demand as an athlete. We couldn’t.”
“The club also made an effort to help him change his lifestyle, to focus entirely on football. Unfortunately, we couldn’t. I think a lot about him. I hope that from his environment, his family, he can improve, change his lifestyle, and hopefully, at some point, return to playing football,” he added.
Recent information indicates that there is no turning back at Liniers, and Centurión will be free at the end of the year when his contract ends. President Fabián Berlanga stated a few days ago that “everything has its limit, and we’ve reached the end; we did everything possible.” It remains to be seen if Centurión can regain his professionalism and demonstrate his skills on the field again.
Boca Awaiting Cavani
After a hard-fought and controversial penalty shootout victory against Talleres in the Copa Argentina, Boca’s week is focused on upcoming clásicos and with a central goal: recovering Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan suffered a strain that kept him out of recent matches, and the aim was for him to return for the derby against River. Before that, Diego Martínez’s team will visit Racing on Saturday, hoping that Cavani can at least make the bench and get some minutes.
Marcos Rojo and Gary Medel are expected to be available for the match against Racing, but the concern lies in the attack with Brian Aguirre’s injury. If Cavani doesn’t make it, the options are limited to Milton Giménez and Miguel Merentiel, who will likely feature.
