Vélez is looking for a coach, is Troglio still in La Gloria? and the suspended matches are finished

Sebastián Domínguez decided to resign.
Sebastián Domínguez decided to resign.

Sebastián Domínguez decided to resign and is no longer the coach of Vélez after the defeat against Huracán by 2-0, in a match corresponding to the 8th round of the Apertura tournament.

Domínguez communicated his decision to the players in the locker room of the José Amalfitani stadium and did not make contact with the journalists who were waiting for him at the press conference. Thus, he said goodbye to the position after nine games: one win (Copa Argentina), two draws and six losses.

Domínguez decided to end his contract at Tigre to join Vélez and replace Gustavo Quinteros, who did not renew his contract after having led the team to the title in the Professional League and reaching the finals in the Copa de la Liga and the Copa Argentina.

Not only did Fortín not win any of the eight matches he coached in the Apertura tournament, but he also failed to score a goal, which marked a historic streak for the Liniers team.

The only match that Domínguez managed to win in this brief stint was the recent Copa Argentina match against Midland, which he narrowly won 1-0 thanks to a penalty by Braian Romero. Ultimately, that was the only goal he was able to celebrate as a coach.

After the goal, the goal scorer went to find the coach and gave him a hug as a sign of support. Although he had not played well against Midland, it was hoped that the victory could give the team a boost of morale, but against Huracán he played badly again and sentenced Domínguez’s term to defeat.

Pedro Troglio: “I still believe in a cup dream”

After the 2-0 defeat against Argentinos Juniors on matchday 8 of the Apertura Tournament, Pedro Troglio spoke at a press conference and analyzed the team’s current situation, the upcoming challenges and was critical of the schedule. “La Gloria” has three consecutive defeats in this tournament and has not scored goals for 489 minutes, a complicated situation for the coach and the players.

“I see that the team is trying hard, but it lacks confidence with the ball and creating more situations,” said the coach when talking about the collective performance. The lack of precision and the scarce generation of opportunities were key points that the coach recognized. He also added: “Today we are facing the team that plays football the best,” he said, giving the Bicho credit, but was blunt about the current state of the team: “It is logical that today is not a good moment, it is not the same as at the beginning. We have played 5 games in which we are not doing things quite right; we have to recover again,” he said.

Despite the adverse results, Troglio was hopeful about a possible qualification for international tournaments: “I still believe in a dream of winning the cup,” he said. Entering the next stage of the Apertura continues to be an achievable goal for the Albirrojo, since, despite recent setbacks, they are currently only 2 points away from that zone. Matches suspended due to rain were rescheduled
During a day with heavy rain in Buenos Aires, the eighth round of the Apertura Tournament of the Professional League was affected and, while Argentinos Juniors barely held on to win over Instituto and Huracán as a visitor to Vélez, both by 2-0, there were two suspended matches in the evening, which have already been rescheduled, with a day and date for their completion: Platense vs. Defensa y Justicia and Banfield vs. Independiente, which will be completed on Tuesday.

At the Estadio Ciudad de Vicente López, Halcón was winning 1-0 over Calamar thanks to a goal by Matías Miranda, but at 26 minutes of the first half, referee Nicolás Lamolina decided to end it. The remaining 64 minutes will be played on March 4th at 8:00 p.m., in two 32-minute periods with 15 minutes of rest.

For their part, Taladro and Rojo were able to play a little longer, reaching the 23rd minute of the second half. The match, which was affected by the weather conditions and had practically no goal-scoring opportunities until Silvio Trucco indicated that there was no more to be had, will also end on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with two 11-minute periods each, with no break in between.
