At the start of the 2025 season, the Municipality of La Matanza, under the direction of Mayor Fernando Espinoza, increased its investment to accommodate more girls, boys, young people, people with disabilities, and seniors, in response to the critical economic and social situation that many families face, which makes it difficult for them to afford private summer camps.
The La Matanza Summer Camps offer: swimming pools, recreational, sports, and cultural activities, with transportation, breakfast, snacks, and medical care included. Each of the 12 locations is staffed by a multidisciplinary team made up of teachers, physical education instructors, doctors, and lifeguards.
Fernando Espinoza, Mayor of La Matanza and president of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM), accompanied by the local Secretary of Sports, Jorgelina Bertoni, visited the Polideportivo Alberto Balestrini, located in Lomas del Mirador, where one of the 12 sites of the Municipal Summer Camps operates. Each facility represents a space for support, recreation, and learning, where over 80,000 children and seniors attend free of charge.
“We are very happy to bring back this mega summer camp,” said Fernando Espinoza, highlighting: “Once again, La Matanza is offering its residents a big celebration throughout the summer.”
“This is a mega event we organize every year, and in 2025, we’ve truly surpassed ourselves, as it’s a record number of kids, grandparents, and seniors. 80,000 people will enjoy our camps throughout the season, as they are here today at this beautiful place, the Polideportivo Alberto Balestrini. They are also being assisted by a large number of teachers and the La Matanza Lifeguard School,” Fernando Espinoza noted.
“Today, a private summer camp costs between 300,000 and 400,000 pesos, and we know that’s practically impossible for a middle-class family to afford. That’s why this year we invested even more and expanded the program so that more children and seniors can enjoy it,” emphasized Fernando Espinoza.
On her part, the Secretary of Sports, former “Leona” (national team hockey player), and world champion Jorgelina Bertoni explained that at all the locations where the summer camps take place, “we work with physical education teachers and encourage all activities so that children, seniors, and people with disabilities have access to the right to recreation, fun, and enjoy summer with guided activities.”
“The happiest thing is to see the smile on a child’s or a grandparent’s face. For them, just as for us, the summer camps are an unforgettable memory,” added Fernando Espinoza, concluding: “As Evita said: the only privileged ones are the children and the grandparents. That’s why, in La Matanza, we plan these mega summer camps with all the love in the world.”
