The attacker also seriously injured another and then fled to Ensenada. After remaining a fugitive for 24 hours, the suspect decided to surrender to the authorities on Thursday.
A 39-year-old man was killed and another 56-year-old was injured after a violent dispute between neighbors in the San Alberto neighborhood of Isidro Casanova. The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday at the intersection of Voissin and Thomas Alva Edison streets. According to police sources, both men were attacked by a young man during the fight, who fled after the crime.
The victims were rushed to the Interzonal General Acute Hospital Doctor Diego Paroissien. There, Francisco David Leite, 39, died due to a serious stab wound to the armpit. The 56-year-old man suffered an abdominal injury and is out of danger, according to doctors.
Forensic experts conducted initial investigations at the crime scene and confirmed the characteristics of the attack. The 5th Central Police Station in Isidro Casanova is in charge of the investigation, while the Thematic Functional Homicide Unit of the jurisdiction is involved in the case.
The search for the suspect was intensified with the issuance of an arrest warrant on Wednesday, January 1. This alert mobilized security forces from different jurisdictions. However, on Thursday morning, the accused, identified as Rubén Adrián Maglione, voluntarily presented himself at the Third Police Station in Ensenada.
The evidence against the accused
A source close to the case confirmed that the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, was found in Maglione’s home, located at the intersection of Thomas Alba Edison and Voissin streets. Santillán’s testimony was crucial to identifying the attacker and issuing the arrest warrant. The victim provided precise details about the day, time and circumstances of the attack, as well as physical and clothing descriptions of the attacker.
In addition, several neighbors testified in the court file, providing information about Maglione’s movements before his escape. These testimonies allowed a partial reconstruction of the events and corroboration of the injured man’s version.
At the moment, the reasons that triggered the violent episode between neighbors from the same neighborhood have not been disclosed. However, Maglione faces charges for “homicide” and “attempted homicide.” At the time of going to press, prosecutor Folino was questioning the detainee in court to advance the case.
