You heard it on No Te Duermas

Assemblies. On the radio program, there was a chat with Marcelo Proverbio, representative of the Union of Municipal State Workers of La Matanza (SiTEMLaM), who emphasized the return of the assemblies in salary discussions).

At the beginning of the communication on No Te Duermas, Marcelo Proverbio pointed out: “To be realistic, the treasury workers started to hold the assemblies again because of a false promise that some issues of running around, and of the salaries that all workers suffer, were going to be resolved 2 or 3 months ago inside the Municipal Palace.”
“The reason was not only the runs but also that a couple of colleagues retired and the decision of those who lead the municipal government was to close the cash registers on Peru Street, which would be the reduction of the state,” he added.
At the same time, he indicated that “they started on Monday with the problem of salaries, which is the main thing, but in reality the lack of personnel and the lack of supplies has been dragging on for a long time” and that “there are no answers to the workers’ claims and then the polyclinic workers held an assembly on Monday, people from the old union were present, us and representatives of SICOP.”
“The answer on Thursday was that there was a promise to meet in January,” he added.
The small increase in salary
Then, Proverbio referred to the situation of salaries: “A 60 percent increase in salary is celebrated when the inflation for the whole year was 160. And the 5 percent that we have to receive now in December, is a part of the March salary, which was $57,000. The increase will be $2,800. Today the basic salary is $88,000, it is not that much has gone up.”
“What they agreed was 10 percent in October, nothing in November and 5 percent in December. There are workers who don’t even earn $400,000. How do you tell a worker that work is dignified, if what it means is salaries? It is very difficult, no union wants to fight, go out on the street and hold meetings. But when they don’t listen to you, when they turn a deaf ear, you have to do it,” he said.
In any case, he maintained that “this is not new, it has been going on for a long time. With Milei the problem was prolonged and we all agree on that” and that “it gets much worse, because what happens to any worker in any union activity is around the increases that never go hand in hand with inflation.”
The tiredness of the workers
In the final part of the note, the interviewee lamented: “The sacrifice always has to be made by those who have the least or those at the bottom. The same thing happens with the light, they tell you when you have to use it. The sacrifice is always made by those below and the workers are a little tired of that.”
“As for health, the guards and emergencies, they have to attend to them. It is a way of making things visible and showing discontent. When we go to the doors of the municipality outside of working hours, to complain about the lack of personnel, contracts and the races, we try to do it during those hours so as not to compromise anyone,” he stressed.
He later mentioned that “most of the workers have another job too, so we have to see what tool we can use with what we have” and that “with a salary of almost $400,000 no one works.”
“They do magic because in the human part they put their chest to everything like in no other job. They tie everything with wire but when you get to the end of the month, you put the card in the ATM and you see that, you get depressed,” he concluded.
