At the start of the interview, Jorge Lampa stated: “We began a project in the last election with Silvia Caprino, the radicalism sector, and the traditional Peronism. We ran in the elections last year, we had two lists because Horacio (Rodríguez Larreta) and Diego (Santilli) decided to play it that way in La Matanza, and that’s how we formed a front and created two lists. The idea was to add up, although the cost was that we ended up fourth, because when you split, you divide the vote.”
“There were many people from radicalism, and a large political front was formed. From there, we continued working, because the ‘Almafuerte’ group was created, where we hold meetings with neighbors. Silvia, in her management, closely followed the neighbors in their daily lives, and this time, the table decided, through our block with Toti Flores and Laura Greco, to present her for re-election,” he elaborated.
He simultaneously pointed out that “we believe she is doing a decent and committed management after all these years, and fortunately, she won. It was a rational decision,” and that “she got 17 votes out of 24 in favor, 5 negative votes from two libertarians and from Mirta Ferreira’s block, and two abstentions from the left.”
The importance of expression
In line with the previous topic, the councilor expressed: “La Libertad Avanza presented its own candidates. All those who ran made a good presentation and had a great performance, but there had to be a choice, and Silvia made it through the nomination process.”
“There were 12 participants, and what matters is competing. The committee worked well. The most important thing is that everyone had the chance to express themselves,” he assured.
He also emphasized that “we continue consolidating territorial work, working within the front we formed, and we were very satisfied with Caprino’s victory” and that “we thank the councilors who supported her with their votes, and even those who didn’t, for having a serious and professional approach, at the level of what La Matanza represents.”
The budget discussion
On another note, Lampa highlighted what lies ahead in the district: “On Monday the 9th and 16th, at 11 in the morning, there will be a meeting with the Municipality’s economic team where they will present the budget. We’ll be able to ask the relevant questions, check, and analyze it. We’ll sit down with the accountants in our block to go over the budget items, projections, the cost of living levels, and the forecasts made on these issues.”
“They say that Argentina has low inflation, but prices keep rising, the dollar is undervalued, and consumption has dropped by 20%. It’s shocking,” he added.
He also pointed out that “everything needs to be analyzed, and for that, we have a team of technicians and professionals. Even though I have a background in the private sector, in the gastronomic industry, we need the broader perspective of the accountants on budgetary matters,” and that “the meeting for treatment and voting is on December 26.”
The complicated current economic situation
To close, when asked about his personal situation, he shared: “Private sector activity is bad; it hasn’t picked up at all. Those who analyze these issues are aligned with the government and talk about enthusiasm. The reality is different. In December, when Milei devalued the currency, we went from the previous government’s poverty rate of 41.5% to 53% today.”
“It generated a lot more, eight million poor people in one fell swoop. Part of the middle class dropped to poverty level, as well as pensioners who earn less than the indigence line, which is $437,000, and they make less than that,” he concluded.
