The Ombudsperson’s Office of La Matanza will be headed by Silvia Caprino, who was re-elected for a sixth consecutive term with a broad majority of votes from the local councilors in the Honorable Concejo Deliberante (HCD), following a process that involved two other candidates.

With the presence of the Municipal Mayor and President of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM), Fernando Espinoza, the President of the Honorable Concejo Deliberante, Liliana Yambrun, swore in Silvia Caprino as Ombudsperson of La Matanza, marking the beginning of her sixth term leading the institution that advocates for the enforcement of the rights of the district’s inhabitants.

The event took place within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the

Ombudsperson’s Office of La Matanza. When asked about the occasion, Fernando Espinoza said: “This marks two uninterrupted decades of this important role and work in our municipality by the Ombudsperson’s Office; it is nothing less than the consolidation of the institutional framework and the democratic life of the district.” He continued: “The Ombudsperson’s Office represents, from the state, being close to the people through listening, humility, respect, and commitment to the residents; always with the aim of building a better community, with both individual and collective identity.”

In her speech before the attendees, Silvia Caprino said: “In recent times, there has been a significant deterioration in the exercise of rights, which has led to two things that we have detected in the population and in those who come to the Ombudsperson’s Office: on the one hand, a situation of intolerance and individualism, which generates discussions that can be resolved with a policy of pacification and harmony; on the other hand, due to economic reasons, decisions are being made at the national level that cut and complicate things, such as access to medication for retirees. We are in discussions with all the defenders of the country and the active forces of La Matanza to ensure that retirees can access their medications,” emphasized the Ombudsperson.

In closing her speech during the special session at the HCD, Silvia Caprino assured: “We will continue working, as we have for a long time in La Matanza, with the community and the institutions. At the same time, we will continue with the Children’s Defender program aimed at the children in vulnerable neighborhoods, so they can learn about their rights, how the state works, and have the necessary tools to ensure their normal development and protection.”

During the ceremony, the importance of the Ombudsperson’s Office, in its 20 years of operation, was highlighted as a fundamental pillar of democracy and institutional life in the district, as well as a key space for the protection of community rights throughout La Matanza. It renewed its mission to work alongside the people and local institutions for a fairer, more inclusive, and supportive society.
