At the beginning of the interview, Natalia Hernández referred to the end of her term as councilor of La Matanza: “We had the last ordinary session but the new ones have not yet taken office. We are in office until December 10. We are still in office, these days there are reports from the executive regarding the budget. I am going to participate, so I am going to work until the last day.”
“The Frente de Izquierda has had this agreement since its foundation that all parties have representation, so we were very happy to have the last session last Thursday and we established a work method with an assembly, with workers, with ordinance projects and claims; and we are leaving with the mandate that we have,” she added.
At the same time, she said that “that same Thursday there were more than 18 municipal health workers and representatives of all the hospitals because with them we presented a project that was agreed upon in the health commission” and that “dealt with the need for a hospital career. This project went on to have a response from the executive.”
“This gives them a benefit of being recognized as what they are, professionals first and foremost, and an improvement in salary. At the provincial level it was denied in 2020 and in the Federal Capital it was scandalous because there was a session in which the nurses were repressed. There were deputies who approved and who said that the professional hospital career was urgent, but who later voted against it,” she added.
The role of the left in the people’s struggle
On the other hand, the interviewee highlighted the social work carried out by the front: “Those who are going to replace in the Deliberative Council belong to the Socialist Left. They are two fellow teachers as well. In total, there are four parties that have been presenting themselves in elections together for several years and there is still a long way to go for next year. But we are in the streets together.”
“When there is an adjustment like this one now, we are the only ones who go out to protest and who are with the retirees. Comrade Nicolás del Caño goes out to the door of Congress every Wednesday and it is terrible because they repress him every Wednesday. You have to be shameless to mess with the retirees, the situation is tremendous,” he said.
He then stressed that “our proposal is to question this system because what we propose from the left is profound” and that “we do not propose an accessory and a make-up.”
“The other day I read a text that said that the revolution is the brake on the catastrophe. If you look internationally, it is a catastrophe. The warlike advance at a global level is tremendous and it is infuriating how they are massacring a people,” he said.
The small number of votes they get in the elections
In the final part of the note, the FIT leader was asked about the small percentage of votes they get in the elections: “We are realistic. They support us, they tell us that they support us but then it is not reflected so much in votes. Myriam Bregman has a positive image of 35 points, something that is unprecedented for the left. Polarization and the lesser evil prevail.”
“We are a force of independent workers. I am a teacher in particular and in general we are a force of workers and no business supports us. You talk about Milei and there was a lot of money financed to change the algorithm on social networks and the left does not have that. I do not think that the situation or subjectivity is evolutionary either, that is why I am confident that people sometimes lean in this direction and history gave us important examples,” she concluded.
