At the beginning of the talk on No Te Duermas, Federico Cantenys spoke about the collective intentions: “In principle, logically, we, the aeronautical unions, are all together in a conflict where the attitude and position of the company is to use all the means and all the resources available to generate conflicts with the workers. The reality is that I am not going to give my opinion or judge the measures of force that colleagues from other union organizations take.”

“We have seen that the strike or the assembly yesterday (Wednesday) in which the flights of different companies were affected, caused the government through the company and the executive to use and take advantage of the situation to attack Aerolíneas again and call for privatization with more of the same,” he added.

He also stressed that “they use strong titles that do nothing more than be that, titles” and that “then when it comes to managing, they do not manage.”

“If the government wanted or had wanted yesterday morning, when the conflict broke out, it could have called for a mandatory conciliation and sat down to mediate between two parties. That does not happen, they do not want that to happen because they do not want a solution to the conflict we are going through,” he added.

The new call for collective bargaining

On the other hand, the interviewee was satisfied with the new call: “Yesterday afternoon we received and celebrated the fact that a new call was made by the company for Friday, to propose a new possible agreement, according to what they tell us. Let’s hope so.”

“We are the first who want this situation to end. We have seen how different media outlets, and the executive himself and also the company’s directors, have sought to politicize a claim that is purely salary-related,” he said.

He also maintained that “in the face of this situation, we are not interested in who governs. We are interested in having our rights respected as workers and being paid a decent salary according to the specialty and the work we do, with the responsibility that this brings us” and that “we are truly the first who want to celebrate, so we applaud this new call.”

Criticism of the government

Continuing with the initial theme of the interview, Cantenys said: “The government, through the company authorities, sometimes dedicates itself to generating headlines that are powerful for the ears of the common citizen who is not so aware of what is happening, and it generates this controversy and this wear and tear. And the reality is that nothing reached us, personally and institutionally. We were only called to a joint meeting to see if we can unblock the situation.”

“Aerolíneas Argentinas had nothing to do with it, so I don’t understand why they use a measure that was yesterday by employees of other companies. Yesterday there was only one flight cancelled throughout the day and I don’t think it even had anything to do with it. We have our own ramp and assistance service, so we don’t suffer,” he indicated.

To close, he said that “before being in government, during the presidential campaign this government got tired of disrespecting and speaking ill of everything that has to do with a state company” and that “I am very surprised to hear Bullrich (Patricia) say such barbarities, given that the government has shown that it does not want to mediate and that it makes accusations against the workers.”
