Vélez confirmed its great season with a relentless victory on Huracán’s court against Barracas Central: it was 5-0 for Fortín to climb to the top of the Professional League table, where it reached Globo with 24 points. In addition, Gustavo Quinteros’ team took advantage in the annual table as the best team so far this year: it has 49, with four points ahead of its pursuers.
The first half was almost completely dominated by Vélez. The opening of the score came at 25 minutes of play, when Fortín quickly left the middle of the field with a direct attack, Pizzini made a great diagonal from right to left to find Romero with a low cross: it seemed that the 9 had no angle to define, but he solved it with a left-footed backheel to make it 1-0 with that enormous definition.

The second half had the same tone but with enormous effectiveness from Vélez, which hurt Barracas again and again. Francisco Meneghini is no longer the coach of Defensa y Justicia
The 4-1 beating by Instituto in Alta Córdoba was the straw that brok the camel’s back for Defensa y Justicia. A result that shook the spirits of players and fans and caused the departure of coach Francisco Meneghini after only ten games in the corralito.
Paqui, known in Florencio Varela for having been Sebastián Beccacece’s assistant between 2016 and 2017 (24 games, with 15 wins, four draws and five losses), took the reins of the club on May 25 and, three months later, he submitted his resignation to the management.
He stepped aside in the midst of the poor results. Between the Copa Sudamericana and the Liga Profesional, he only had one victory, four draws and five defeats, the last one being the toughest, in Córdoba against La Gloria.
Now, El Halcón, second to last in the table with just eight points, must look for his replacement and there is already a serious candidate: Martín Cicotello, who recently finished his cycle at Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza.
Gabriel Heinze refused to return to coach Argentinos Juniors
After Pablo Guede’s departure, Argentinos Juniors aimed almost all its guns at Gabriel Heinze as the new coach. However, El Gringo appreciated the proposal and rejected it despite being out of work since the end of 2023. The main reason would be his desire to continue living in Madrid. In La Paternal there is no time to lose.

After the respective conversations, the Gringo thanked the Bicho for his offer, but rejected it and told the club that for now he wants to continue living in Madrid, where he has resided since his contract with Newell’s ended in December 2023.
At Argentinos they dreamed of being able to remember the great level that the team had under Heinze’s command in the Primera Nacional almost 10 years ago. Under his technical direction, the Bicho managed to ascend to the Professional League in 2017 playing great football. However, for now their paths will not cross again.
