Inmates from Unit 60 refurbished furniture to be distributed among various public schools in Merlo that needed it.
A group of prisoners from the Unit 60 of the Buenos Aires Provincial Penitentiary Service (SPB), located in the town of Libertad in the southern part of Merlo, repaired a significant amount of furniture to be distributed to several public schools in the district that required it.
The work involved a total of 50 chairs and desks that were subjected to welding, carpentry, painting, and assembly using materials provided by the Municipal Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sports, and Recreation. This was done to restore the furniture, which was previously deteriorated and out of service.
Once the refurbishment was completed, the furniture was handed over to the mentioned department for donation. This was the first of many such contributions planned by the prison. “This is the first delivery of many that we plan to collaborate on,” said Director Cristian Ribnikov.
Additionally, last weekend, the prison inaugurated a space for children in celebration of Children’s Day, which had previously been converted by 120 inmates. They renovated a multipurpose room with drawings and educational and recreational games made by the inmates in the treatment workshops they attend within the complex.
Furthermore, the prisoners created a series of wheelchairs, crutches, toys, and dolls for various local charitable organizations, including the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Families Network, the Special School No. 505 in Merlo, and a neighborhood association in Gregorio de Laferrere. The two prisons in Olmos also benefited from these efforts.
