On the radio program, Víctor Leguiza, a member of the School Council of La Matanza from Juntos por el Cambio, discussed the state of the educational infrastructure in the Municipality and the national political context.

The Situation of Education in La Matanza

At the start of the conversation on No Te Duermas, Víctor Leguiza emphasized the high demand: “We need to understand the educational structure of La Matanza; it practically should be a ministry due to the number of schools we have. A school council alone is not enough; the demand in La Matanza is overwhelming. I have contact with other school council members from different districts, and when I share the numbers from here, they are surprised.”

“We have approximately 700 schools, which in terms of buildings amounts to around 500, because some serve as both primary and secondary schools, and even night schools in some cases. It’s immense. It can happen that in the morning it’s a primary school and in the afternoon a secondary school,” he added.

At the same time, he admitted, “We have a lot of work due to the sheer number of schools and the lack of budget because the reality is that it’s not enough.”
“There may be the best intentions from all parties involved, but the truth is that the budget is insufficient to sustain the demand throughout the structure,” he asserted.

Teamwork Within the School Council

In the continuation of the discussion, Leguiza analyzed the teamwork despite ideological differences: “I believe we need to differentiate what can and cannot be done. Sometimes one wants to do something but cannot, and in this case, I’ve raised it more than once in sessions. I think we all want the same goal, which is the children and public education.”

“We don’t always have the means to do it unfortunately, and it’s not about criticizing. I don’t like to oppose just for the sake of it. If something is being done well on the other side, it should be supported. On more than one occasion, our bloc has supported decisions from the ruling bloc because it was beneficial for the children,” he assured.

He then detailed, “My political boss is Diego Kravetz, who is currently the Secretary of Security of the Federal Capital and was the interim mayor of Lanús for the last six months, and I have the advantage that he also comes from Peronism” and that “the truth is I am very free to act and have never had a complaint.”

The National Political Context

On another topic, the interviewee was asked about the bloc’s positioning at the national level: “Nationally, we are with PRO, with Macri. At that time, we supported Mauricio and Patricia Bullrich. She went directly with the libertarians, and we continued with the same stance.”

“Personally, I didn’t like it because if I had wanted Milei to be president, I would have worked for him, not for Patricia. I was criticized a bit for not supporting that situation,” he said.

Regarding the actions of his fellow party members, he mentioned, “There are things that are difficult to agree with, for example, Toti Flores visited repressors; who can agree with that?” and that “it’s more common sense than ideology.”

“I don’t know if everything has fallen apart, but I do believe there is a lack of leadership, which is what’s missing. I even see it in Peronism, generally. There is a lack of political leadership, and that’s why things are happening as they are. I think it’s a matter of exhaustion with Peronism, Macrism, and any kind of political class,” he concluded with a generalized perspective.
