The weakness of the opposition
At the beginning of the talk on No Te Duermas, Vanina Biasi emphasized the opposition, which she described as weak: “When they were able to approve the Ley Bases, we pointed out the weakness of the opposition because a force that has seven senators definitely has to have strong collaboration from other governing political spaces in order to advance with its reactionary agenda. Many argued when it was the Ley Bases and the fiscal package that it was to provide tools to the government so that it could, in some way, make effective its 56 percent in the runoff and its 30 percent in the general election.”
“But it is definitely getting out of hand. And it goes far beyond offering a single tool, much less one that was established in an Omnibus Law that legislates and legislated on many aspects of Argentine political life and that is now being regulated. And the fact that the regulation of the Bases Law that was approved by the radicals, the PRO and Peronism violates even what was voted in the National Congress, in order to advance with the most reactionary aspects, goes quite unnoticed,” he added.
He also stressed that “this speaks of the political regime in which we live, this is a warning for a population that votes for certain political options and then those spaces end up responding to interests that have nothing to do with the popular vote” and that “this is also very present, I want to remember that, for example, money laundering was voted unanimously.”
“All political parties voted for this, which is the most scandalous thing in Argentine history because of the benefits it provides,” he said.
“A blank check for people who committed crimes”
Continuing with the latest on money laundering, Biasi said: “Now that it is regulated, it is a scandal directly because they promised that it was done in the name of the entry of millions of dollars into Argentina, but nevertheless the regulation, as Caputo said in a presentation a few days ago, shows that more than a fundraising effect for the Argentine state, this money laundering has the effect of offering a blank check to people who committed crimes. But when it comes to criminals who move millions of dollars, the government is absolutely benevolent.”
“They are their heroes, but they are also heroes for those who would be incapable of saying publicly that a tax evader is a hero. That seems to me to be the most important thing because Milei saying that those who fled Argentina with dollars are her heroes is normal, but the fact that all the others who carried out the capital flight say no but their actions are similar, is a disgrace,” she said.
The university budget
To close, the leader of the Left Front referred to the university budget: “They are going to issue a Decree of Necessity and Urgency that, in the name of fiscal balance, is going to say that the university budget cannot be increased and then it is going to prevent that decree from reaching the Bicameral Commission in a regulatory manner so that a pronouncement can be made regarding that decree.”
“Because what obviously has to happen here is that if Milei vetoes the university budget intended to increase teachers’ salaries, that DNU would have to end up in the bicameral and if it is not discussed there, it would return to the full Congress where we have to tell the entire university population that we hope that the blocks that originally voted for this law reject the DNU that Milei wants to put out to veto it and the university increase is enshrined as it should be,” he explained.
