On August 7, the day of San Cayetano, the CCC marched with the workers of Medamax and the CTA-A demanding Peace, Bread, Land, Shelter, Work, an increase for the Potenciar Trabajo Plans and against layoffs.
The march began at the Medamax workers’ camp, at Km 27 of Route 3, the column of more than 1000 comrades cut off one side of the Route and ended at the Chapel of San Cayetano, on the Isidro Casanova tracks, where a mass was celebrated in front of said church.
The march, which was promoted by the Multisectorial of La Matanza, was attended by ATE, CTA-A of La Matanza, SOMOS-Barrios de Pie, Agrupación Nuestra América, Medamax workers, Ernesto Ludueña, Trade Secretary of the CGT of La Matanza, representatives of the Newsboys Union and sectors of the church.
The NCO present at the march spoke with Juan Carlos Alderete, National Coordinator of the CCC and National Deputy (MC) for the PTP-UxP.
Today the social movements mobilized together with the CGT and other sectors. What is your assessment of this march?
“There has been a very large turnout throughout the country, joining forces with the CGT, with the two CTAs, with regional factories, with some factories that are in conflict, such as the case of Medamax, here in La Matanza, where we are marching with its workers, to conclude with a mass in the church of San Cayetano, on the Casanova roads. This march in Matanza has been called by the Multisectorial and has been like that throughout the day today, multisectorial activities to confront the policies of the national government.”
Milei has the Ley Bases and issued the decrees to regulate it. He has delegated powers, he puts into effect privatizations, taxes on wages, more state layoffs, etc. How can this government offensive be stopped?
“We believe that it is in the streets where we can push back these policies against workers and the people, which Javier Milei has been implementing since he took office. Therefore, I believe that the CGT will be forced to discuss new days of struggle such as a new strike and other measures to defend jobs and salaries, such as the national industry, SMEs, etc.”
The government continues to not deliver food to community kitchens and it has been 8 months since then. What is the situation in the popular neighborhoods?
“They operate with tremendous impunity, justice has failed 4 times, telling the Ministry of Inhuman Capital led by Pettovello to distribute the food that it has stored in the warehouses, but they turn a deaf ear. In addition, this minister has complaints, because she has been given 6 billion pesos for the purchase of food by international organizations that help with food programs and she has not complied. She has used part of this money to appoint ñoquis in the ministry, people who live on the street are dying from the cold and on the other hand she has blankets stored away bought by the previous government and she does not distribute them. The attitude of Milei and Pettovelllo is perverse and criminal. It is unbearable in the working-class neighborhoods, there is a lot of anguish, poor families have been hit hard and sometimes despair grows. That is why, as we did today, we must show a way, which is a united struggle, with multi-sectoral movements in the streets, in order to defeat Milei and his policy”.
