The solidarity program and health in La Matanza
At the beginning of the talk on No Te Duermas, doctor Walter González said: “It is an initiative that we have been developing with the people of Barrios de Pie for six or eight months. A special circumstance occurred when I met Jose Oscari, a member of this organization, during the PASO, and he saw what we had and what my intention was from a health perspective to give to the people in La Matanza.”
“I was with Ledesma (Julio) and the launch of this solidarity plan for pediatric and elderly care was done in a development society in Rafael Castillo where at the time we made the communion between Somos Transformación y Compromiso and COPEBO so that I could present myself as a precandidate for the PASO,” he added.
He also assured that “health for the children in La Matanza is dramatic because the children’s hospital was closed for a long time and it is the only public center we have here for the children” and that “the hospital is to attend emergencies and major illnesses in children and everything that is primary care or the periodic diagnosis of the healthy child that is necessary to do, is a bit adrift because we do not have the health structure.”
“It is measuring them, weighing them, seeing their nutritional status, listening to how the heart and testicles develop, it is a healthy child exam that must be done once a year. In fact, in schools they require this physical fitness for children to play sports. The examination of a child by a general practitioner should be done because certain measures are seen to determine problems that will be complex in the future,” he explained.
The work with the Barrios de Pie Movement
On the other hand, he indicated: “With the pandemic we noticed that the confinement that the children had and the whole traumatic situation that we all lived through, caused a lot of damage. There are many situations of behavioral disorders that are not well classified or language disorders that are without any medical examination. And what one does with that care of the healthy child is, in the face of what is detected, refer him to a specialist to direct the treatment.”
“If we attend 100 children in a solidarity landing, with which we make a diagnosis of 10 percent and refer them to the hospital, we are already doing a lot and that is not done. The people of Barrios de Pie saw what I was developing in the political field because that was my social presentation horse. I spoke with them, we structured a solidarity system of care and I conveyed some issues of what I intend,” he said.
To close, he pointed out that “they have many health agents, it is a social organization that is already set up, they are already doing things and what I did was add a structure” and that “I have a pediatric hospital that has second level hospitalization in Lomas del Mirador, I have another that provides outpatient care for all pediatric specialties and what I did was give them the possibility of using my structure at a very low cost, which is what a case of beer or a kilo of meat costs.”
