Crimen. “My brother will now be able to rest in peace. Thank you all for helping us make the image of that son of a b*tch go viral. Without your help it would not have been the same. Now we can concentrate on going through our pain in peace,” wrote Yamila Gómez on her social networks, after her brother’s murderer turned himself in to the police after having remained a fugitive for 8 days.
Jorge Ismael Gómez, 47, was killed on December 2, in an episode of extreme violence that occurred in the Villa Scasso neighborhood of González Catán. That afternoon, a truck from the drainage services company “Ariel” arrived at the intersection of Pasaje Timoteo and San Pedro to carry out a job. What began as a routine task culminated in a tragic event.
At the end of the service, the owner of the house expressed her dissatisfaction with the work done and refused to pay, which led to a heated argument with the company employees. Witnesses reported that the verbal exchange quickly escalated, with shouts and insults in between.
During the altercation, a man who had been there since the truck arrived entered the house and left minutes later with a bag from which he extracted a firearm. Without saying a word, he began shooting at the company vehicle.
The workers tried to flee for cover. The truck driver, identified as Jorge Ismael Gómez, 47, started the vehicle in a desperate attempt to escape. However, he was hit by one of the shots, which caused his death.
Seriously injured, Gómez lost control of the truck, which ended up falling into a nearby ditch. His partner, who was unharmed, managed to get out of the vehicle and call for help. Meanwhile, the attacker fled.
The owner of the house was initially arrested, but hours later she was released due to lack of evidence against her, as ordered by the prosecutor in charge.
How the case continues
According to Yamila Gómez to NCO, after the arrest of the accused of the crime “the case is underway, this person has already turned himself in to the homicide court. He is in the penitentiary at km 42.”
In addition, Gómez explained: “They tell us that they are in the stage of collecting evidence. After that and the judicial recess, the following steps will be followed to reach the trial stage.” Regarding the collection of testimonies, the victim’s sister explained: “For the moment we know that the only one who ratified his statement is my brother’s partner. After that, there is no other witness taken into account. That is what we know for now.”
