Gimnasia’s outlook is not the best for the end of the year. It was left without mathematical possibilities of qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana by annual table and coach Marcelo Méndez was immersed in a sea of criticism. Despite the fact that he spoke about the transfer market and the need for reinforcements, his continuity at Lobo for 2025 is not entirely assured.
For now, he works at the head of the squad for the match with Platense next Sunday in Vicente López. The club’s negative medical report was aggravated by the injury suffered by defender Enzo Martínez: Severe knee sprain with tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and left meniscus. Thus, he will have to undergo surgery and will have between six and eight months of recovery.
The Uruguayan defender joins Matías Abaldo, who has been recovering for more than 50 days from a pubalgia, David Zalazar who had surgery for a meniscal injury and Norberto Briasco who, despite having arrived from Boca as an important reinforcement, was never able to get back into shape physically and is now torn.
With few replacements available, because Pablo De Blasis is also not available after having been injured by a nail on the Independiente pitch, Gimnasia will face the final match of the year looking to finish, at least, with a smile.

The Xeneize still has to wait until the end of the championship to decide its fate with regard to qualifying for the Copa Libertadores, but will close at home against Independiente, no more and no less. Fernando Gago plans some modifications and one is the return of Marcos Rojo.
The experienced central defender served his suspension for accumulating yellow cards against Newell’s and will thus return to the starting eleven, possibly in place of Nicolás Figal, to face the Rojo at La Bombonera.
Figal has discomfort in his ankle that could make him miss the preseason because he may have to undergo surgery. In that case, recovery would take between two or three months. It is precisely because of this pain that he would rest on Sunday, taking into account the good performance of Lautaro Di Lollo with the Lepra.
On the other hand, Gago is considering including the young Milton Delgado in the starting lineup, who has earned his place. He would be in place of Ignacio Miramón and it will be seen if he is with Pol Fernández, who has confirmed that he will continue his career in Brazil. In the attacking front, Miguel Merentiel is starting up front to have the chance and form the duo with Edinson Cavani again.
Two River promises could be loaned
The transfer market is about to start and there is a lot of speculation at River about the possible departures and renewal of the squad that Marcelo Gallardo can implement. In this case, there are two youngsters with clear possibilities of continuing their careers at Defensa y Justicia.
The first is Agustín Ruberto, a key piece of the reserve team that began to add minutes with Martín Demichelis and then lost ground with the signing of Adam Bareiro. With the Paraguayan’s injury, Muñeco gave him a chance in the rout against Rosario Central, although he is being loaned out by Halcón, an expert in promoting young players.
