The delegation of athletes and artists from La Matanza performed admirably in the final of the 2024 Buenos Aires Games (Juegos Bonaerenses) in the coastal city of Mar del Plata, securing second place in the gold medal tally. Additionally, the district once again ranked as the top performer in the medal count, with a total of 72 medals: 32 gold, 22 silver, and 18 bronze.
The Municipality of La Matanza, known as the National Capital of Social Sports, demonstrated once again in the finals of the 2024 Buenos Aires Games (JJBB) the outstanding efforts of local athletes and artists, along with the work of professors, coaches, coordinators, technical staff, and medical teams across various sports and cultural disciplines.
La Matanza’s delegation, organized by the Secretariats of Sports and Recreation, and Culture and Education, was the largest in the Buenos Aires province. Over 800 young people, adults, and seniors represented La Matanza and enjoyed a week filled with competitions, activities, and unique experiences. This year, they earned an impressive second-place finish at the 2024 JJBB podium and were the delegation that won the most medals overall.
Among the sports disciplines that earned medals, notable mentions include: Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, roller skating, tennis, table tennis, soccer, hockey, taekwondo, judo, artistic gymnastics, track and field, Free Fire (e-sports), and swimming for people with disabilities (PCD), among others.
In the cultural and artistic disciplines, highlights included: vocal solo for older adults, PCD painting, PCD drawing, tango for older adults, and literature for older adults.
It is important to emphasize that many of the individuals who participate and represent the colors of La Matanza come from activities promoted by the local government through the Secretariats of Sports and Recreation, and Culture and Education, which are open to the entire community and entirely free of charge.
La Matanza has taken first place in the Buenos Aires Games on eleven occasions, and in all editions, it has been the municipality with the most medals and the largest number of athletes and artists participating at the local, regional, interregional, and provincial final levels. Therefore, La Matanza’s participation in the 2024 Buenos Aires Games fills the entire district with pride, showcasing the work done by the Municipality each year, and further solidifying its status as the National Capital of Social Sports.
