The man was captured in front of his partner and released after being paid 4,800,000 pesos. They pretended to be police officers in the extortion calls.
The Departmental Investigations Delegation (DDI) of La Matanza captured a gang of fake federal police officers in recent days. They held a merchant from the town of Gregorio de Laferrere captive for five days and only released him when his family paid them 4,800,000 pesos in ransom.
The kidnapping took place on February 20th, when minutes after midnight the victim and his partner arrived at their home and were intercepted by a dark gray Renault Sandero Stepway, from which three members of the force, dressed in uniforms, got out. The man, a Bolivian national, was handcuffed into the van and told they were part of “the brigade” to take him, his Renault Kangoo, and a Volkswagen Gol Power support vehicle to a property in the city of Monte Grande. There, they held him while they called his relatives, demanding money: “Do you want your brother back alive?” Go collect some money.”
Although the family members made the payment two days later, the criminals did not release the victim until 11:45 p.m. on February 24 in the 22 de Enero neighborhood of Ciudad Evita, during which time they physically assaulted him and seized his belongings.
Through analysis of the kidnappers’ communications over the tapped phone lines, images obtained from security cameras, and various field investigations, the Second Federal Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office in Morón identified all those responsible.
A total of nine raids were ordered in the districts of Esteban Echeverría and Villa Bosch, north of the municipalities of Tres de Febrero, González Catán, and Laferrere, culminating in the arrest of six men and three women and the seizure of the vehicles involved, a shotgun, two pistols, ammunition, badges, bulletproof vests, handcuffs, and multiple cell phones used in the extortion.
