A new edition of the celebration of Japanese culture took place, with free admission. How did the day turn out? via Diario NCO.

Last weekend, the Mercat de Villa Crespo (Thames 747) became the epicenter of Japanese culture as the first celebration of the Buenos Aires Matsuri Festival was held, which invites people to connect with the best of Japanese traditions.

In Argentina, the Nikkei community, descendants of Japanese, has kept its traditions alive, organizing successful Matsuris in other cities, consolidating itself as a space for cultural and gastronomic encounters.

For the first time, this celebration came to Buenos Aires, with the aim of bringing the opportunity to experience a Matsuri in an urban environment.

Throughout both days there were live shows by Nikkei rock and pop bands, traditional Japanese dances, taiko drums and the magic of Bon Odori. Also, a cultural fair and cosplay, and street food and Japanese gastronomy.

And the activities?

In addition to a cultural fair and cosplay with more than 50 stands with Asian products, manga, anime and Japanese art, a special space for cosplay fans.

On the other hand, Street food and Japanese gastronomy: the best of the flavors of Japan offered by Mercat Villa Crespo with a variety of street food options. From onigiris, yakitori, sandos, to takoyakis and okonomiyaki, passing through traditional sweets such as dango or taiyaki.

On Saturday, January 18, there were Parraleños, Metal Warrior, Eddie Cruz, a cosplay contest (hosted by Fede Piñeiro), No Regrets, Aki Band, Kiite Kudasai, Daikoku Meet, and a Panni Margot parade.

While on Sunday the 19th, Sarmiento Matsuri Daiko, Qpa City Pop, Ashibi, Buenos Aires Taiko, singers from La Plata, Florencio Varela, José C. Paz, Centro Okinawanse, Odori COA, and Odori Florencio Varela took the stage.
