What does the play consist of?
Gabriela Acher. On September 13th at 9 pm, in the Theater of the University of La Matanza, Gabriela Acher will perform her play ‘What is a girl like me doing at an age like this?’ which she has been developing for a few years in different places in Buenos Aires such as the Devoto Theater, the Maipú in Banfield, the Salta Cultural Municipal in Brandsen, the Cañuelas Theater, the Ateneo Bernasconi in Villa del Parque, the Stella Maris in San Isidro and even in the Art Center in Mar del Plata.
Regarding the play, the renowned actress said: “The play is presented as a Ted talk, in which I develop a theory that says that generations of women, today aged 40, 50, 60 and 70, and by having more fun than their mothers and grandmothers, have pushed the aging gene back 20 years.”
“Therefore, 60 is the new 40, 50 is the new 30, 40 is the new 20, and 20-year-olds have not yet been born,” she said enthusiastically.
In addition, she explained that “in the play I am supposed to be broadcasting online and there is also a sentimental advice column in which I am receiving letters from different women with their age problems and I am answering them” and that “the advice column is called ‘Heaven can wait. com’.”
The preparation and the state of the University Theatre
On the other hand, the protagonist of the play and also the writer of the book on which it is based, said: “The preparation is perfect and in the best way because I am doing it every Sunday at the Picadilly Theatre.”
“The theatre is in the best conditions sincerely, and I always tell people that if they like to laugh, they should come,” she added.
She also pointed out an important problem which is the passing of time as something tragic. She pointed out about this that “the play is to die of laughter” and that “it talks about a complex subject such as the passing of time, which normally causes us anguish, and being able to laugh about it is a liberation.”
